People outside of London are advised against coming into the capital to do their Christmas shopping on Oxford Street. Matt Hancock said people living outside London should not travel into the city unless it is necessary when it is plunged into tighter coronavirus restrictions on Wednesday.
In a blow to the capital's shops, the Health Secretary confirmed that people from outside London would be advised against travelling into the city to buy their Christmas presents.
More than 10 million people will be plunged into the toughest restrictions at 12.01am on Wednesday. The Health Secretary told MPs on Monday that a new strain of coronavirus had been identified, which may be behind the surge in cases in the South of England.
