Fans of the pop sensations Coldplay are only just realising what their name really means. A post from fans of the Chris Martin-led group had them wondering where the name originates from, and it did not take long for listeners of the band to suggest a few origins.
One fan posting to Reddit wrote: "I’ve always wondered what the name Coldplay means. What is your interpretation of their name?
Or are you wishing they stuck with Starfish?" Coldplay had previously been known by the name Starfish but changed it to their current moniker before the release of their debut album, Parachutes.
The band appears to have gotten their name from the compound of cold and play, according to one user. One theory on the r/Coldplay subreddit reads: "I guess I’ll start, to me the name Coldplay is a compound word: cold and play.
