People are only just realising why they are receiving oranges in their Christmas stockings. The most wonderful time of year has a few strange traditions to it and gifts of fruit is a long-standing part of the festive season for some.

According to TikTok content creator Claire Dinhut, also known as Condiment Claire, there are two main reasons for the receiving of oranges at Christmas.

But one reason is much more modern than the other, Saint Nicholas-tied tradition. While not as frequently handed out as they were in previous years, oranges in the festive stocking is still a time-honoured tradition for many who celebrate Christmas.
