Pensioner dies and woman seriously injured after horror Highlands crash

A pensioner has died and a woman was seriously injured following a horror crash in the Highlands. Police were alerted to reports of the smash shortly after 5.30pm on Thursday May 26.

Emergency crews including the Scottish Ambulance Service raced to the scene on the A938 near the village of Carrbridge.Upon arrival, the 74-year-old male driver of the car could not be saved and was sadly pronounced dead.A 73-year-old woman was also involved in the tragic incident.She was rushed to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness with serious injuries but the extent of her condition is not yet known.No other vehicle was involved in the event.The road was locked down by police for several hours after the crash while officers conducted enquiries.It has since reopened.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.40pm on Thursday, 26 May, police were called to a report of a one-car crash on the A938 near Carrbridge. “Emergency services attended but the 74-year-old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
