Pedestrian, 70, escapes with minor injuries after being hit by car which ploughed into tree

A pensioner was taken to hospital after she was hit by a car. The 70-year-old woman is recovering in hospital following the incident on Ayres Road in Old Trafford on Wednesday morning.

Police have arrested a man, 27, who is being interviewed by detectives. The crash happened on Ayres Road when a car hit the woman and also a tree at 9.20am. Police and paramedics were called to the scene. The pedestrian was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Pictures from the scene showed a badly damaged car on the pavement.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 9.20am this morning (2 February 2022), police were called to reports of a collision on Ayres Road, Old Trafford between a car and a pedestrian. "Enquiries have established that a car collided with a pedestrian before colliding with a tree. "Emergency services attended and a 70-year-old woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
