Everton after deciding to end his retirement. The Manchester United legend called time on his glittering career in May of 2011 and went on to enjoy a testimonial match at Old Trafford in front of almost 75,000 supporters.

In a move that pleasantly surprised United supporters, Scholes reversed his decision to retire in early 2012 having felt rejuvenated after a four-month rest from the sport.The 11-time Premier League winner has now admitted that he had a plan if United had rejected his return.“I came back in the September with Warren Joyce and the U23s and I was training every day,” he told DAZN.“I felt as fit as I’d probably ever had done after having four months off – it was just the break I needed.
