Wayne Rooney has left Derby chiefs in no doubt he wants the manager's job on a full-time basis after holding his first press conference as caretaker boss in light of Phillip Cocu's sacking.

The Rams' captain has been put in temporary charge of first-team affairs, along with coaches Liam Rosenior, Shay Given and Justin Walker, following Cocu's dismissal at the weekend.

Derby's new interim backroom team will be in the dugout for Saturday's league clash with Bristol City, though it is unclear whether Rooney will start out on pitch.

However, while Rooney is going to continue playing as well as fulfilling the role of caretaker, he has made it clear he sees his future in the Pride Park hot seat.
