Parents who've been 'shielding' from coronavirus face fines if they refuse to send their children to school next month, the Tory Schools Minister has confirmed.
Nick Gibb signalled there will be no blanket exemption for parents in England who face the highest risk from Covid-19. And he warned: "From September, school is mandatory for pupils." It came as new data today showed a third of workers who've been shielding in England are still not comfortable returning to work - despite Boris Johnson's orders to do so from August 1.
The Office for National Statistics said 196,000 of those who'd shielded who normally work (32%) were "not at all comfortable" working outside their home.
