'Kids more at risk of flu or being run over than catching coronavirus at school'

The risk of children being in a road traffic accident or catching flu is greater than catching coronavirus at school, the Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England has said.

Dr Jenny Harries said she could understand why some parents might be wary about sending kids back to school, as Boris Johnson urges parents in England to send them when doors reopen next week.

But she reassured parents that schools should now be "safe". She also said that no environment is without risk and gave examples of kids being run over on the way to school or getting ill from flu.
