A 'paltry' pay offer has been blasted by Unite as more than 100 of its members at a semiconductors maker start to vote over whether to strike.

The union said Diodes Zetex Semiconductors is offering its workers a 5.5% which it argues is not enough when inflation currently stands at 9% and has described as 'paltry'.

According to documents filed with Companies House, the Oldham business made a pre-tax profit of £29.3m in 2022 while its parent racked up a gross profit of £827m.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: "This global giant is swimming in cash while the workers in Oldham are struggling to keep their heads above water. Join our WhatsApp Top Stories and Breaking News group by clicking this link "It's no wonder they're voting on strike action.
