Paisley pupils Evolve into independent learners by focusing on topics like anxiety and fruit

Pupils set themselves a personal challenge to achieve a Youth Scotland Evolve award.The youngsters from West Primary School took part in the Evolve Challenge.For eight weeks the group of P7 pupils worked two hours a week on an independent personal challenge.They included things like dealing with anxiety or learning to like fruit.West Primary School depute head Lesley Reid said: “We’ve never done this before so it was a first for the school.“We picked a group of children who we thought would benefit from it.“It’s SQA accredited so it’s another way for children to get an award and certificate.

Sign up to our newsletters here.Renfrewshire Council’s Youth Services is based at West Primary School so Lesley said the pupils would head there to work independently on their awards.“They were going to work with the youth workers and gain their experience and work through the project.“For the children it’s something different, it’s about learning new things.

It’s a personal challenge, something that’s just for them.They’ve got to show evidence on what they’ve learned and achieved.
