Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hit back at Jurgen Klopp for claiming Manchester United get awarded too many penalties. United have been awarded 42 penalties in two years under Solskajer, compared to Liverpool ’s 46 in over five years under Klopp, a point referenced by the Anfield manager after his side’s 1-0 defeat at Southampton.
Klopp joined Tottenham ’s Jose Mourinho and Chelsea ’s Frank Lampard in bemoaning the perceived favouritism of referees towards United when awarding spot-kicks.
But Solskajer responded, accusing them of trying to influence referees and appeared to mock former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez’s infamous “facts” rant of 2009 about the number of decisions that went United’s way.
