Donald Trump looks set to become the main Republican candidate for the upcoming US elections after alternative candidate Nikki Haley pulled out of the race, according to reports.

Haley is expected to formally announce her plans to drop out of the race during a brief press conference at 3pm in Charleston today after a disastrous Super Tuesday saw her win only in the Vermont primaries.

She's expected to announce that she will not endorse former President Donald Trump, but will encourage him to earn the support of those who had backed her, according to sources.

The former governor of South Carolina and former President Donald Trump's own U.N. Ambassador put up a tough fight, however, refusing to give up the race even after she lost in her home state to Trump last month - as well as every contest before and after, save for Washington, D.C., on March 3, where she defeated Trump by nearly 30 points.
