Newcastle are leading the race to sign Arsenal defender Rob Holding on loan for the season. The 24-year-old had a number of clubs eyeing his services for the year, but the Magpies look to have won out.
Holding is yet to agree personal terms with the north east outfit and a deal with the Gunners still needs to be thrashed out.
Arsenal are currently short of defensive options meaning the former Bolton man is likely to be included in their Community Shield squad.
Mikel Arteta is currently without David Luiz and Sokratis, who are quarantining, and Shkodran Mustafi, Pablo Mari and Calum Chambers who are all absent with injury.
