Growing up in Miami, Mariah Wilson always knew her family had a rich history of standing up for what they believed in.But little did the granddaughter of Joe Gibbons realise how much impact her relatives made in the small village of Renton.There stands a bull statue commemorating Joe and two of his brothers who fought General Franco as well as all local men who joined the International Brigade.Enlisting to battle against the “darkening shadow” coming across Europe by the fascist regime, the Gibbons brothers were tenacious and determined.Mariah, 41, was touched to visit the memorial recently with her father David Wilson.Sadly, her mum Peggy died in 2006 and never managed to make the trip over the Atlantic to walk in her father’s footsteps.Ma
