Pilots of new testing technologies will begin the UK’s worst affected regions from next week, the government has announced.Hospitals in Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Leeds, Newcastle, Basingstoke and Southampton will begin testing asymptomatic NHS staff on a weekly basis, and use the data to assist with Track and Trace.New 'lateral flow tests' will also be sent to adult social care settings, schools and universities across the north west, north east and Yorkshire.The swab tests can turnaround results within an hour without the need for a lab.Positive results such tests will then trigger a further PCR test to confirm the result - as the technology is still in the early stages of development, according to the government.Liverpool,.
