Members of the planning committee will be asked to approve plans for the new £48 million Dumfries High School tomorrow. The council is seeking permission to build the new school, a 3G pitch, a viewing terrace, science and wellbeing gardens and 72 parking spaces as part of the project.

It will also see the demolition of the existing school, the David Keswick Athletics Centre and the Greystone Foundation building.

But councillors will be told the plans have received 20 objections from 15 different addresses. Complaints centre on the noise and light from the new 3G pitch which will be closer to homes than the current field, traffic concerns, insufficient tree planting and a lack of cycling provision to and from the site.

No objections have been raised by Scottish Water, the council’s flood risk management team, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency or Police Scotland.
