NASA warns asteroid 'closer to Earth than the Moon' will fly-by planet in weeks

The 2011 ES4 space rock has been listed by the agency on its "Close Approaches" page for a fly-by on September 1.It will measure up to 49metres and will whizz past us at a whopping speed of 18,253mph.But incredibly, it will fly past Earth closer to us than it is to the Moon.NASA claims it will be hurtle past at 0.00048 astronomical units away, which is around 44,618 miles away.That makes it far closer to Earth than the distance the Moon lies away, which is around 238,855 miles.While NASA has not listed it as a threat, it is still close enough to be.
