A total of more than £22,000 has been paid to local charities by people who were caught dumping waste. Portland Basin Marina Limited has paid £2,000 to East Manchester Community Boat Project after they were caught causing pollution to the River Tame.

They allowed dredging spoil to be place on the banks of the river, which slid into the river, causing harmful pollution. The company responded by carrying out improvement works on the site and introduced a new policy to stop this happening again.
