More Labour success after victory in Dunblane and Bridge of Allan by-election

Labour’s minority administration at Stirling Council is back up to six members after last week’s Dunblane and Bridge of Allan by-election.David Wilson was elected to represent the area (Ward 3) on the council.Turnout for the by-election was just 34.1 per cent, with the number of ballot papers 12,057.The quota of votes for a candidate to be elected was 2,048 and Mr Wilson was elected at stage six of the process.Conservative candidate Stuart McLuckie had scored most of the 4094 first preference votes with 1,143, followed by Mr Wilson with 952.SNP candidate John Watson received 770 first preference votes, Greens candidate Andrew Adam 659, Liberal Democrat Dick Moerman 345 and independent Alistair Majury with 225.However, it was Mr Wilson who crossed the required threshold first.He said: “First and foremost I would like to thank the residents of Dunblane and Bridge of Allan ward for electing me to represent them on Stirling Council.

It is an honour and a privilege to take on this role and I promise to work hard and do my best on their behalf in facing the challenges ahead together.“In terms of the democratic process I would also like to thank my fellow candidates who contested this election for the respectful way we all put our respective cases to the voters as well as all the Stirling Council staff and the police who facilitated the process.“I’ll now be getting straight to work on the issues raised with me during the campaign and would also encourage anyone who has an issue to raise to contact me and my fellow ward councillor colleagues for assistance going forward.”Stirling Council leader Cllr Chris Kane said: “We are delighted that David has been elected as a Labour councillor and we look forward to him playing his part
