Dalbeattie Star beginning to look like themselves again after thumping Nithsdale Wanderers

Dalbeattie Star gaffer Eddie Warwick reckons his side are looking a bit more like themselves again. After a slow start to the season, the South of Scotland League champs have won their last four league games, culminating in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Nithsdale Wanderers.

Warwick said: “We’re starting to play really well, we’re starting to click and putting a run together. “We’re scoring lots of goals, creating lots of opportunities, and every time we go forward, we look like we can score.

We’re tightening up through the middle and back and not conceding many goals, which is a good platform to win any game. “The start was a hard one but I don’t think the players were quite mentally ready. “I think after playing a cup final on the last day in May it took us time to get going again.

The boys rightly enjoyed their holidays after such a fantastic year but I don’t think they realised just how difficult things would be this year and the target on your back is twice the size. “I do feel as if we’re getting that message over clearly now and the results are showing that. “We’re delighted there’s no more midweek games because we won the league on the training pitch last season and now we’re really looking forward to working with the players. “We’ve had four signings and a couple of young boys and we want to get them into the culture of the club and the way we want to play.
