A street was turned into a sea of litter after a bin lorry was forced to tip its load to prevent a fire. Residents watched as a huge pile of rubbish emerged on the road after the waste was tipped out in St Helens, Merseyside.
Video footage shared by St Helens Borough Council shows a large number of rubbish bags all piled up on the road outside people's homes in Clock Face yesterday (September 5).
The council says the incident followed a 'potential fire' at the back of the bin lorry. Firefighters were also called out to the scene, with the video showing a fire engine parked up next to the bin lorry.
Litter can be seen strewn in the street alongside the piles of bin bags, while firefighters and council workers watch on in the video clip.
