Met Office warns one part of UK to see winds up to 110mph as red danger to life warning issued

The Met Office has issued a rare red weather warning for wind this weekend - with one part of the UK to see gusts of up to 110mph.

The weather agency has warned that Storm Darragh poses a “danger to life” and could cause significant damage and disruption to parts of south west England and Wales on Saturday morning.

According to the Met Office’s forecast, the summit of Snowdon, or Yr Wyddfa, the mountain in Snowdonia, North Wales, is set to be hit by gusts reaching 109mph by Saturday afternoon.

The mountain is also braced for blizzard conditions as persistent rain turns to snow above 800m. Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, is 1,085m above sea level.
