Met Office issues thunderstorm weather warning for parts of North West

Thunderstorms and heavy rain is expected to bring disruption across the North West today, the Met Office has said. A yellow weather warning has been issued as the forecaster has predicted that delays to transport will be likely as bad weather rolls in today, July 15.

Parts of the north of England expected to be affected include Cumbria and Lancashire. The Met Office has said: "Scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms will occur across parts of Scotland and northern England.

Lightning and hail are likely in places, whilst rainfall totals of 15-20 mm in one hour are possible, with a few places seeing 30 mm within 2-3 hours. Among the disruption that could be on the way, the Met Office has said that there is is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus.

Delays to train services are possible along with some flooding of a few homes and businesses, leading to some damage to buildings or structures.
