Met Office has warned Brits that "thunderstorms" are likely ahead of what should be the hottest day of the year so far. Despite warm temperatures today and tomorrow, the national forecaster say that conditions will be "turning thundery overnight" today (May 15).

In their outlook for Monday (May 16) to Wednesday (May 18) they add: "[There will be a] mixture of sunny spells but also heavy showers or thunderstorms at times, particularly in the south.

Becoming very warm temporarily in the southeast on Tuesday."Speaking to the Express, Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin explained further: "Sunday will be a warn humid day with the risk of heavy thundery showers."Between the showers there will be some breaks in the cloud and some sunshine, and temperatures could get into the mid-20Cs."He also warned: "If you have weather-dependant plans on Sunday, keep up to date with the forecasts."Netweather have issued a "thunderstorms expected" warning in which they say: "[An] area of high pressure over UK today [Saturday, May 14] will retreat northeast by Sunday to allow an amplifying upper trough over the Atlantic to make further inroads towards the UK from the west. "This will allow an elevated plume of warm and moist air...

to advect north across western Europe as the flow backs - reaching southern England by Sunday."Scattered heavy showers and perhaps some elevated thunderstorms are forecast to develop along the ‘nose’ of the plume as it moves up across southern England."Luckily, we shouldn't have to wait too long for conditions to improve.
