A memorial for a dog that was engraved with a racial slur has been removed after a city council deemed it was "not appropriate" for the current age.

The headstone, which marked the grave of a dog that died in 1902, was situated in a pet cemetery by the side of Coombe Abbey Hotel, in Coombe Abbey Park in Warwickshire.

It had first attracted controversy last year after a visitor to the country park noticed the stone and reported its offensive nature.

But it has recently been removed after Coventry City Council deemed it "not appropriate" for the current age, Coventry Live reports.
