Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are no strangers to hitting the headlines for their controversial decisions, with one of their first being their bombshell statement to announce they were leaving the royal family.
Their dramatic exit came over three years ago now, in January 2020, when they announced they would be relocating to the States to start a new life where they would be financially independent. It followed weeks of speculation that behind closed doors, the couple had been unhappy with their life for quite some time within the palace walls.
At the end of 2019, an ITV documentary featured an emotional Meghan admitting that she was struggling to come to terms with her new life as a royal, the Mirror reports. It's been claimed that the final decision that proved to be the catalyst behind their decision to quit 'the Firm' came after a special photo was released at the beginning of 2020 by Buckingham Palace. The charming snap shows the late Queen Elizabeth standing proudly with three generations of heirs who are now King Charles, Prince William and his eldest son, Prince George. The snap was taken in the Throne Room at Buckingham Palace and, not only was it a picture for the family album, but it also clearly laid out the future of the British Monarchy.
However, according to Andrew Morton's unauthorised biography, Meghan: A Hollywood Princess, it's claimed that the telling photo was an 'unspoken code' that made the Duke and Duchess of Sussex question their own position in The Firm.
