Mary-Kate initially signed a petition for divorce on April 17, but her filing was put on hold because the courts were closed to non-emergency cases. "It was clear my marriage was over," she cited in the official documents obtained by Page Six, "the relationship has broken down irretrievably." Still intent on legally ending her marriage, she then requested an emergency divorce on the grounds that Olivier was allegedly forcing her out of their Gramercy Park apartment amid a public-health crisis.
