Martin Roberts has shared the chilling moment a Homes Under The Hammer crew member thought they had found a dead body during a house filming. The veteran presenter, who has been the face of the hit BBC property auction series since 2003, has amassed a trove of memorable experiences from touring countless properties for the programme - but this one understandably stands out.
While he's very used to stepping over the threshold of neglected or derelict homes, Martin recalled how what he expected to be a very normal property visit turned into something much more disturbing. "We went to this one house, which had clearly been lived in until very recently," he said. "Almost like the kettle was still hot kind of thing and we went in and then the director went and had a look around..." He continued, "And she came out absolutely ashen in the face.
And she said, 'There is a dead body! There's a dead body in the bed'." However all was not quite as it first seemed, he explained during a recent interview, and the man in the bed was still very much alive, although the story of what had happened was somewhat heartbreaking. "And then this old man sat bolt upright, no teeth and said, 'Where's my family? ' and the people had left in such a rush that they forgot grandad.
Grandad was still sleeping in the bed.The family had left. The house had been sold. He's suddenly faced with film crew from homes under.", reports the Mirror.
