Marsden Moor on fire AGAIN as crews called out to yet another blaze near Greater Manchester

Firefighters are dealing with another blaze on moorland near Greater Manchester this evening. Crews were sent out to Marsden Moor at 7.23pm tonight (May 30).

Visible smoke can be seen billowing from the West Yorkshire moor, which is just over the border from Saddleworth. A smell of smoke is also being carried from the scene across Oldham this evening.

It's believed to be the eighth fire to take place on Marsden Moor so far this year. West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) confirmed it had been called out to the moor for the seventh time in 2023 last week. READ MORE: Join the FREE Manchester Evening News WhatsApp community The fire service says tonight's fire involves an area of moorland off Wessenden Road, 400m x 400m in size.

An update on the WYFRS website added: "Crews are using blowers, beaters, landrovers (sic), fogging units and the Polaris with additional support from Game keepers. "Crews from Slaithwaite, Holmfirth, Skelmanthorpe, Todmorden, Keighley Holmfirth and Halifax in attendance with supporting officers." Residents have expressed their sadness at the latest fire on social media, following the other recent incidents. @theatregrad wrote on Twitter: "Another week, another fire.
