A Marks and Spencer store in Manchester city centre has suddenly closed its doors. The M&S Simply Food store that has now permanently closed is situated beside Piccadilly Gardens and the bus station, on the corner of Parker Street and Mosley Street.

Shoppers are now greeted with a message on the walls of the building informing them that the store has closed. The other nearest M&S is the huge store at the bottom of Market Street.

There is also a Simply Food store at Piccadilly train station. The reason for its closure has not yet been confirmed, but pictures taken on Sunday (August 6) show the now empty unit with a message that reads: "Goodbye and thank you from everyone at Manchester Piccadilly.

The news of the store's closure comes as the retailer announced earlier this year its plans to open 20 new shops across the UK - including two in Greater Manchester.
