Clattenburg, who officiated in the Premier League between 2004 and 2017, has made the admission in his new autobiography - 'Whistle Blower'.

The now-46-year-old was reflecting on the time that he sent the former United boss to the stands during a clash between the Reds and Bolton Wanderers at what was formerly known as the Reebok Stadium in 2007 - a contest that saw Bolton win 1-0.
