Maria Anguelova Promoted To Global Head Of Corporate Development For Sony Pictures Entertainment, Erik Moreno Segues To New Role

EXCLUSIVE: Maria Anguelova, an 11-year Sony Pictures Entertainment veteran, most recently EVP Corporate Development and Strategy, has been promoted to EVP, Global Head of Corporate Development.

She replaces Erik Moreno, who will be stepping into a broader Sony-wide role as EVP, Growth & New Initiatives for Sony Pictures.

The announcement was made by Ravi Ahuja, Sony Pictures’ Chairman of Global Television Studios and Corporate Development, in an internal memo.

Anguelova, who reported to Moreno, will now report to Ahuja. She will lead SPE’s global corporate development, M&A strategy and integration management efforts. “Over the past several years, Erik and Maria have worked on some of SPE’s most important transactions that have helped transform our business and better-position SPE to grow and thrive in a rapidly changing marketplace,” Ahuja said in his memo to staff. “Together, they led the completion of over 40 M&A transactions exceeding $4B in deal value to expand and rationalize SPE’s portfolio of assets.” Ahuja listed some major deals Moreno and Anguelova had worked on, including the acquisition of Crunchyroll for $1.2B, the acquisition of Silvergate Media, now known as SPT Kids, and last year’s acquisition of non-scripted production company Industrial Media for $350M. “Additionally, Erik and Maria also led a critically important, years-long portfolio review process, divesting non-core businesses like GSN Games, linear television networks, and the general entertainment direct-to-consumer business Crackle,” Ahuja said. “These strategic, decisive moves helped strengthen our business and drive a steady increase in profitability for SPE over the last several years.” In his new role, Moreno will continue to report to
