Parts of Spain are baking in 44C heat this week as the Cerberus heatwave continues to grip southern Europe. The Foreign Office has warned anyone travelling to the country to stay safe as the country's national weather agency issued an extreme heat warning.
The blistering heatwave has taken hold across many popular British family holiday hotspots in the Mediterranean, including Italy and Greece as well as Spain.
Much of southern Europe has been in the high 30s, while some parts of Spain, southern Italy and Greece have been in the low-to-mid 40s - around eight to 12 degrees above the seasonal average for the region.
Spain’s Aemet weather agency said the heat wave this week “will affect a large part of the countries bordering the Mediterranean” with temperatures in some southern areas of Spain reaching between 42C and 44C.
