Manchester United make three academy staff appointments

Manchester United have made three appointments in the academy as the club looks to continue to have a leading youth set-up. It's understood Ben Clarke has joined from Cardiff City to become pre-academy lead scout.

Clarke, who also had a stint at Swansea, spent six years with Cardiff, where he held the position of head of academy recruitment Callum Tongue has also been appointed from Ipswich Town to become United's head of local recruitment. ALSO READ: United planning to extend three players' contracts ALSO READ: Why Malacia has been absent Tongue has left his position as Under-18s coach at Ipswich, who are challenging for promotion to the Premier League this season, to join United and he previously worked for Manchester City for nine years in different roles.

The young coach was born in Hyde, Greater Manchester and he worked with former United assistant first-team coach and now-Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna during his time at Portman Road.

Tongue was a goalkeeper in his playing days with Bradford City’s youth team, then with Barrow in the National League. Elsewhere, United have welcomed Finn O’Leary to the academy staff, who has been appointed as assistant lead phase scout for the local area and he's joining from Blackburn Rovers, where he was recruitment operations manager.
