Manchester United academy hoping to emulate Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard in FA Youth Cup

Manchester United's head of academy Nick Cox has claimed the current Under-18s can write their names in the club's history books.

United's youngsters play Wolves in the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup tonight (Wednesday) night after beating Leicester 2-1 in the quarter-final of the competition.

The match will be held at Old Trafford once again as the youngsters look to emulate the Class of 2011. United have won the FA Youth Cup (10) more than any other club in the history of the competition, but last won the prize back in 2011, with players like Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Ravel Morrison in that side.

United's latest set of youngsters, led by manager Travis Binnion, will be bidding to end a trophyless decade at youth level. United's head of academy Cox has looked ahead to the game and he admitted the fixture is a 'lovely opportunity' for the players. “The players and staff are aware of what the Youth Cup means at this football club in terms of the history and association we have, and some of the players and some of the groups that have won the competition,” Cox told PA news agency. “We know that here is a lovely opportunity for the boys to put their name in the history book. “For some players that go on to have a career, it will still be one of the most magical things that they do.
