Green bins will NOT be collected in Manchester this week, and the council says wintry weather is to blame. In a statement released on Tuesday afternoon (January 7), Manchester City Council apologised for the disruption.
It has now also issued more advice to residents across the city. “We are sorry that green bin collections are being cancelled this week,” the statement said. “Due to weather slowing services down, we need to concentrate resources on other bins that are used more.
Please don't put green bins out for the rest of the week.” Further advice released subsequently said not collecting green bins, which are for food and garden waste, means ‘resources can be concentrated on emptying the other bins that more residents use’.
The notice added: “We are sorry that due to issues caused by the weather, bin collections across the city have been slowed down, so we are temporarily stopping emptying green recycling bins this week. “Green bins are the least used across the city, meaning resources can be concentrated on emptying the other bins that more residents use.
