Manchester Airport has issued a statement following flight cancellations due to concerns about Storm Éowyn. Large parts of the British Isles have been battered by high winds today as the storm hit parts of Ireland and the west coast of England, Wales, and Scotland.

Weather warnings are in effect, including a rare red weather warning meaning that there is a 'danger to life' due to high winds.

Disruption across the British Isles has been widespread, with roads, railways, and airports all seeing delays. Manchester Airport is among the many locations affected, with 17 cancellations currently confirmed at the airport.

These have mainly affected flights to Dublin and Belfast, as well as some locations in Scotland and the Isle of Man. Follow live updates on cancellations throughout the day here. A spokesperson for the airport previously explained to the Manchester Evening News that although there are high winds these are currently directed along the length of the runway, which was designed in the direction of the prevailing winds.
