After Unai Emery was relieved of his duties at Arsenal in December 2019, it was widely speculated that Arteta would replace him.
The Spaniard was Pep Guardiola's assistant coach at the Etihad and, although the City boss made it clear he wanted to continue working with his number two - Arteta had been earmarked as a potential successor to Guardiola - Arsenal still made their advances.
Arteta duly obliged when Arsenal made their offer, but he's endured a tumultuous reign at the London club over the last two years.
