Bee House bar in Deansgate Locks is accepting donations of items needed to help the people of Ukraine. Coordinator for the centre, in Bury and Manchester, Alicja Popowicz is asking for items such as foil survival blankets, toys, nappies, sanitary towels and sleeping bags to help those sleeping outdoors and having to fight on the front-line.

The bar has become one of several places across the UK, where people can go along and donate items, to help the Ukrainian people in need.

The bar began collecting items over the weekend and has already received numerous donations. Joint co-ordinator, Barbara Byczkowska, from Poland, said the response has been "brilliant." She said: " The phones are going crazy.

It has been a brilliant response. "We have been getting calls from Polish people, English people, people from everywhere, shops and companies, hospitals and schools - it's been like a hot line, like a typical call centre. "It has been absolutely amazing.
