Passengers have faced major disruption at UK airports after the country was hit by heavy fog. Murky conditions arrived on Boxing Day and continued through to Saturday (December 28) in many parts of the UK.

Manchester was one of a number of airports hit by air traffic restrictions as a result of the weather. Images showed planes shrouded in fog as they tried to land and take off from Manchester Airport in recent days.

Restrictions affecting Manchester Airport, set by the air traffic controller Nats, continued through to Saturday. In an update issued today (Sunday), the airport confirmed the restrictions had been lifted.

Passengers were hit by delays to several flights over the last three days. Some flights were also cancelled amid foggy conditions.
