Manchester United’s reasons for not signing Timo Werner have emerged as the RB Leipzig goalscorer signed on for Chelsea. The German has reportedly agreed to join the Blues, receiving £200,000-a-week in a contract at Stamford Bridge.
It saw Frank Lampard snatch the Bundesliga star away from Liverpool, who were linked with the forward since January. But MEN have reported that United also dipped toyed with the idea of signing Werner before turning their noses up at it.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been looking for goal-scoring options – and Werner’s 31 strikes in 40 games would have made him a top target for Old Trafford.United’s interest, though, did not transpire to a transfer bid, leaving the way clear for Chelsea to swoop in.
