Man to appear in court after fight in Manchester city centre

A man has been charged after a reported fight in Manchester city centre. Police were called to reports of a fight involving two men on Corporation Street at around 6.15pm on Wednesday, April 19.

One of them was said to have a large knife. In an update on Sunday, Greater Manchester Police confirmed a man has been charged and was due to appear before magistrates on Monday. He has been remanded in custody ahead of an appearance at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court on Monday. In a statement, GMP said: "Astley Skeene, 49, of no fixed abode, has been charged with attempted grievous bodily harm and possession of a bladed article. "He has been remanded in custody ahead of an appearance at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court on Monday 24 April 2023. "These charges relate to an alleged incident involving two men fighting near to Corporation Street in Manchester City Centre at around 6pm on Wednesday 19 April."
