Emergency crews were called to Easter Road in the Lanarkshire village at around 3.30am on Sunday.The 26-year-old man had been walking along the street when a thug pounced on him.Police say that the victim was rushed to University Hospital Monklands after sustaining a serious head injury.
It is believed that the victim was attacked with a knife during the incident.Officers have now launched a probe into the incident and are urging potential witnesses to come forwards with any information that may help them with their investigation.Police Scotland Detective
