Man loses eye after firework explodes in his face during Bonfire Night display

A man lost his eye after a firework exploded in his face during a family Bonfire Night display.Connor McKenna-West, 25, and his fiancé Carl had planned an event for family and friends at their home in Middlesbrough on Sunday.

The couple enjoyed the home display and kept aside a few remaining fireworks to enjoy with their immediate family at the end of the evening.However, as reported by Teesside Live, disaster struck when Connor attempted to light the fuse of a rocket - and instead of flying into the air and lighting up the sky, the firework exploded in his face.

He was rushed to hospital with a fully shattered right eye and shrapnel wounds to his face - and despite undergoing a four hour-long surgery he had to have his right eye removed.Surgeons at the hospital tried to the eye but quickly realised that shrapnel from the rocket had gone directly through the eyeball.
