Man in hospital after fire rips through Glasgow flats as residents evacuated

A man is in hospital after a huge blaze broke out within a block of tenement flats in Glasgow. Firefighters remain at the scene of the inferno after being scrambled to the incident on Garthland Drive, Dennistoun, at 3am today.

A number of residents were evacuated as a result of the inferno, which is thought to have broken out in a ground-floor property.

One man was rushed to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where his condition is described as stable. Video footage from the incident shows multiple emergency service vehicles in attendance, including fire, ambulance and police.At it's height, nine fire engines were used to tackle the flames.

Firefighters remain at the scene this morning as they work to extinguish the smouldering remains. Officers investigating the incident say inquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of the blaze.A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "At 3am on Thursday, December 29, police were called to a report of a fire at a block of flats in Garthland Drive, Dennistoun, Glasgow.
