A man aged in his 30s has died in a collision with a HGV on the M61 motorway, police have sadly confirmed. The northbound and southbound lanes of the motorway from Horwich, Bolton, to Chorley in Lancashire, were closed for several hours on Friday evening for accident investigation work, with diversions put in place and long delays reported.
Police have now confirmed officers were called to 'reports of a collision between a HGV and a pedestrian in the carriageway' at around 3.45pm.
The man, who hasn't been named, was aged in his 30s, Lancashire Police said. He is said to have died at the scene. Police said on Saturday his family were being supported by specially trained officers.
The collision is said to have occurred on the northbound carriageway near Chorley. In a statement, Lancashire Police said: "We are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after a man died in a collision on the M61.
