Manchester City have not ruled out handing Sergio Aguero a new contract to keep the Argentine striker at the Etihad until 2022.
Aguero, the club’s record goalscorer, was expected to move back to his boyhood team, Independiente, in Argentina when his current deal expires at the end of next season.
But, although the 32-year-old is once again sidelined, after undergoing a knee operation two weeks ago, he remains City’s master marksman.
Pep Guardiola will be in the market for a new striker once the current campaign ends, but there is a possibility that Aguero will be handed a one-year extension if he continues to score goals next season.
