Pep Guardiola expects an even tougher challenge from Arsenal this season after their summer transfer business. Arsenal led the Premier League for much of last year before being overtaken by the defending champions in the final part of the campaign.
The two teams will go head to head in the Community Shield on Sunday, owing to City also winning the FA Cup last season. Mikel Arteta has further strengthened his side in the last few months, adding defender Jurrien Timber and attacker Kai Havertz as well as £105m midfielder Declan Rice - beating City to his signature.
They may also strengthen further, with strong interest in Brentford goalkeeper David Raya. Guardiola expects many teams to challenge for the Premier League title again, but has been particularly impressed with Arsenal for their purchase of Rice and others.
It isn't just a stronger squad that City expect to face this season but a stronger XI if the moves from the Gunners pay off. Also read: Pep Guardiola sends Man City transfer message over two players "He decided to go to Arsenal so all the best.
