Police have arrested a 41-year-old man in connection with an alleged weapons incident on the streets of a quiet village. Officers, including specialist armed response units, were called to an address in Port Elphinstone, immediately south of Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, shortly before 3pm on Wednesday, January 25.Elphinstone Road and a number of connecting streets were blockaded for several hours while police engaged in what is believed to have been a stand-off.
Locals unable to return to their homes were understood to have been accommodated at a nearby community centre until police were able to bring the incident to a close.
Police have not commented on the type of weapon allegedly being used. But the force confirmed a man had been arrested.The incident brought much of the village, which has a population of around 2,000, to a halt.
Images shared with the Record showed a police cordon being erected at the junction of Elphinstone Rd and Ladeside Road, next to a ladieswear' store.
